A week after record high temperatures in the Dallas-Fort Worth area on Christmas – highs were in the 80s on December 25 – cold temperatures and the possibility for precipitation are in the forecast for New Year’s weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
For Thursday, December 30, and Friday, December 31 – New Year’s Eve – high temperatures are expected to hit the 70s. Still, on New Year’s Eve night, the Weather Service predicts likely showers and thunderstorms starting around 7 p.m. with an overnight high in the mid-50s.
On New Year’s Day, showers and thunderstorms are likely, at 70% chance, mainly before 7 a.m.. As the first day of 2022 progresses, it should be sunny with a high near 68, but the wind speeds could reach as fast as thirty miles per hour.
Temperatures will begin to drop as Saturday winds down, with overnight lows expected to be in the 20s with thirty miles per hour winds. On Sunday, the high is likely to reach only the low 40s.
The overnight low may reach about 30 degrees on Sunday night, but pitch back into the 50s in time to start the work-week on Monday, with highs to climb back up in the high 60s on Tuesday and Wednesday.
