Police are hoping to identify a body found in the Trinity River, which police said is unexplained.

The Dallas Police Department tweeted a message asking for the public’s help identifying a man who was found dead in the river last month.

“DPD and the DC Medical Examiner are asking for help to identify a man found dead in the Trinity River on 1/18/23,” the tweet reads.

“He is described as White/Hispanic with a surgically amputated right hand and numerous tattoos. Anyone with info on the man’s identity – contact 214-920-5900.”

Police released photos and descriptions of the man’s various tattoos.

One tattoo includes a smiling crescent moon with what appears to be the name Anthony Luna around it. Another tattoo depicts a woman with a skeletal face. According to WFAA, the moon tattoo is located on his right shoulder and the woman is on the left side of his torso.

He also had an image of a rosary on his left hand and arm and a tattoo of the name Jose on his left knuckles.

The Dallas Police Department did not immediately return a request for comment by The Dallas Express.

Police have not said whether they suspect the man was the victim of a crime or how he died.

The man’s body is just the latest found in a body of water in Dallas, as a 16-year-old murder victim was recently found in Oak Cliff Creek, as reported by The Dallas Express.

That body was found in District 1, represented by Councilmember Chad West, who was named The Dallas Express’ Crime Boss of the Month four different times in 2022. The Dallas Express’ Crime Boss series recently highlighted Councilmember Jaime Resendez’s District 5, which has experienced more than an 18% spike in crime, according to data from the City of Dallas.
