The owner of a dog that attacked a child has been arrested on the charge of “attack by dangerous dog resulting in serious bodily injury,” a third degree felony.

According to CBS 11 News, Daneka Black, 31, was arrested after her dog mauled the 6-year-old child as he got off the school bus.

The attack happened around 3:15 p.m. on February 17 in the 3400 block of Timberglen Road, just off the President George Bush Turnpike, as previously reported by The Dallas Express. Dallas Police said Black had failed to properly secure the animal, which allowed the dog to get out of the house and attack the child.

The incident left the child with serious injuries, and he was hospitalized in critical condition. However, the child is now stable.

Dallas Animal Services revealed it has the dog in its custody but said it had no history with the dog prior to the attack.
