Police arrested a 34-year-old woman accused of fatally stabbing a man on Tuesday at a South Dallas apartment complex.
According to The Dallas Morning News, Dallas PD officials wrote in an arrest warrant affidavit that officers responded to a stabbing call in the 2300 block of J.B. Jackson Jr. Boulevard, just south of Fair Park.
Officers found Reginald Daniels, 54, who had been stabbed. The 54-year-old was taken to a hospital, where he died.
The affidavit stated that the victim’s brother told police that Daniels had been fighting with Renita Harris, 34, at an apartment. He said Daniels and Harris eventually left the apartment and went outside. He said he heard someone yell, “She stabbed him,” before he saw Daniels bleeding on a staircase outside.
The affidavit stated further that another witness told police where Harris and officers found a trail of blood leading to her doorstep. Police also found a trail of blood from where Daniels was found to a gutter where they found a silver knife.
According to the affidavit, police searched Harris’ house and found a black jacket that had what appeared to be blood on it. Police also found blood on Harris’ doorway, floor, and on a shelf near the entryway.
The affidavit says that Harris told detectives during an interview that she and another woman had gone to Daniels’ apartment to sell him alcohol. Harris said she got into an argument with Daniels and made the other woman leave the apartment.
According to the affidavit, Harris told detectives that Daniels began assaulting her and only let her go after the other woman started breaking the apartment’s windows.
She told detectives that Daniels left the apartment and followed the other woman outside. She said she could not explain what happened after, but she found Daniels on the stairs bleeding.
The affidavit stated that when detectives told Harris that her accounts of the event contradicted those of witnesses and physical evidence recovered, she maintained that she had stabbed Daniels in self-defense and that the witnesses were lying.
Harris is now facing a murder charge for fatally stabbing Daniels and is being held in the Dallas County jail as of Wednesday. Her bail is set at $100,000.
