A Dallas Police Officer was honored with an award on September 10 for his response to a Love Field Airport shooting in July.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Dallas police said 37-year-old Portia Odufuwa allegedly fired multiple bullets into the air at the Dallas airport on July 25. After she was dropped off at the airport, she reportedly went into the restroom, changed into a hoodie, and came out shooting into the ceiling, according to police.

Officer Ronald Cronin, who was at the airport at the time, moved to resolve the situation. He gave the shooter loud verbal commands to cease shooting and drop the weapon.

However, Dallas police said she ignored the officer’s commands and instead pointed the gun at him and a bystander, firing in their direction.

Cronin took cover and fired his department-issued gun at the suspect, hitting her in the lower part of her body. Police said Cronin held his position until other officers arrived and took the shooter into custody.

She was then transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital for treatment. No other person was injured in the incident, as families and individuals were immediately evacuated from the airport.

The Sons of the American Revolution presented Cronin with a Life-Saving Award for his actions which they say effectively stopped the shooter, saving innocent bystanders from potential harm.

Odufuwa was charged with aggravated assault of a public servant, according to Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia. Police also said that she was not allowed to own a gun and that the firearm used in the shooting did not belong to her.

Thank God nobody was injured. That same God should bless Officer Cronin and family for putting his life on the line every day to protect us and is often rewarded by both official and layperson abuse.
