North Texans can expect a brief break from the heat this week. No heat warnings or advisories are currently in effect for the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex for the first time in weeks.

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth announced that a cold front would move into the North Texas region on August 14, bringing “slightly cooler” temperatures. Ambient temperatures through the day in the northern counties are not expected to rise above 100 degrees.

Monique Sellers with the NWS in Fort Worth told The Dallas Express that North Texas will not see a drastic drop, but temperatures will remain below 100 degrees through the middle of the week.

“It’s been quite some time. We started really warming up in June and we never really stopped,” said Sellers. “We went from one heat wave to the next to the next with very little time in between, so it’s been a pretty extended period of excessive heat for us.”

However, heat advisories and excessive heat warnings are still in effect for counties south of the metroplex on Monday. The cold front will continue to track southward, bringing cooler temperatures to Central Texas and Hill Country on Tuesday.

The NWS predicts a 20% chance of storms, with gusty winds possible, in the afternoon and evening hours of Monday, for areas south of I-30/I-20, along the line of the cold front.

Sellers said there is no chance of rain throughout this week for the rest of the metroplex.

Temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to be on track with seasonal averages. Sellers said that August 15, in particular, has the potential to be the “best” day this week.

“Highs are about 95, and we’re getting into the 70s for our lows, which doesn’t sound like much, but considering we’ve been pushing 80, 82, 83, that’ll be nice,” said Sellers.

Triple-digit temperatures are expected to return to the metroplex by the end of this week. Temperatures on Thursday are forecast to rise as high as 106 degrees, likely triggering new heat advisories.

Highs of 100+ degrees are expected to persist for the remainder of the week into the weekend.
