Multiple residents have been displaced after a three-alarm fire swept through an apartment building, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue.

The fire occurred Saturday evening at an apartment complex on South Murdeaux Lane.

Jason Evans, a Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman, told The Dallas Express that over 30 people were displaced.

“A total of 36 people were displaced as a result of the fire,” said Evans.

Kamesha Brown, property manager for the Murdeaux Villas, spoke to The Dallas Express and confirmed that multiple families were affected by the fire.

“Eleven families were affected, and we are placing them in other units,” Brown said.

Brown confirmed that none of the families affected had renters insurance.

Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to the call at about 7 p.m. The apartment manager told The Dallas Express that she thinks the fire started in building 11, and it took about 20 to 30 minutes to notice the smoke.

She said no one was home when the fire started.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, smoke could be seen coming from the three-story building.

As firefighters made their way inside the building, they discovered the flames were burning in the walls.

The number of firefighters responding to the scene numbered between 60 and 70, according to WFAA.

The fire that swept through the building affected 24 apartments, 10 of which were occupied by people, reported WFAA.

Most of the damage occurred on the second and third floors. A portion of the roof also collapsed.

No injuries were reported.

The Red Cross arrived on the scene to help residents displaced by the fire, according to officials.

“Assistance is being coordinated through the American Red Cross (ARC) and apartment management, who’s been instructed to advise any families that left the scene prior to their arrival to contact 800 RED CROSS [1-800-733-2767] within the next few days if they are in need of assistance,” said Evans.

Officials do not know yet what may have started the fire. An investigation is underway.
