Man Fatally Shot, Suspect Found at Local Hospital

A man was fatally shot in the early hours of January 23 at an apartment in DeSoto.  

According to CBS 11 News, officers from the DeSoto Police Department responded to the shooting scene in the 200 block of East Wintergreen Road near Hampton Road shortly after 1 a.m.  

Upon arrival, responding officers found the victim, who had been shot to death inside the apartment.   

Detectives from DeSoto Police Department found evidence of a gun battle at the scene and were able to conclude that the suspected shooter had also been injured during the gunfire exchange, according to CBS 11 News.  

The detectives later confirmed that a potential suspect connected to the fatal shooting was being treated for gunshot wounds at a local hospital.  

The detectives followed up on the lead and secured a warrant for the suspect, according to CBS 11 News.  

The suspect was arrested by Desoto Police and later identified as 19-year-old Julian Jones. 

According to CBS 11 News, the 19-year-old suspect was being held as of January 23 pending his arraignment.  

Police later identified the victim as Terrence Wayne Demus, Jr., of DeSoto. Authorities say the homicide was an isolated case and posed no threat to the general public.  

DeSoto police did not reveal the motives and circumstances surrounding the homicide.  

They ask anyone with information related to the fatal shooting to leave a message for Sergeant Joshua Parker of the DeSoto Police Department at (972) 223-6111.
