After spending more than 24 hours on top of a construction crane in West Dallas on Singleton Boulevard, a man was taken into custody Tuesday morning.

He had climbed atop the crane early Monday and was discovered there by the crane operator around 7:00 a.m. The crane operator called the police when he could not convince the man to get off the crane, according to NBC 5 DFW.

SWAT spent hours negotiating for the man to come down peacefully. Local news outlets reported that the man might have been in distress.

Police blocked off streets surrounding the area as they worked to persuade the man to climb down from the crane. The incident stopped traffic in all directions leading in and out of Singleton Boulevard.

Video circulated on social media throughout the day Monday showing the man walking back and forth on the boom high above the street. At one point, it appeared that police sent a black bag up to the man, but it is unclear what was in the bag.

The man remained atop the crane overnight, despite heavy rain moving through the area.

Kristin Lowman, a spokesperson for the Dallas Police Department, spoke to The Dallas Express early Tuesday and confirmed that officers had taken the man into custody. There were no injuries to the man or the police officers.

Dallas police did not provide any details about the man’s condition or confirm whether he was in a state of mental distress, and they have not publicly released his identity.
