One of the owners behind the bakery concept La Casita plans to open another location — this time inside Half Price Books in Dallas.
The Dallas Morning News reported that Maricsa Trejo expects to debut the new restaurant in two to three months, taking the place of Black Forest Coffee at the bookstore on Northwest Highway.
“We wanted to create a space for people to come during the day for coffee, pastries, and lunch, and a fun, dynamic tiki bar with a patio to enjoy drinks and great food in the evening,” Half Price Books CEO Sharon Anderson Wright told DMN. “With Maricsa being an award-winning baker, Alex [Henderson] being a great chef, and our exciting in-store events, we are creating something really special here.”
One of four owners of La Casita Bakeshop, Trejo is a wholesale supplier of baked pastries and bread for the region, The Dallas Express has reported. She and others produce 2,200 to 2,700 units each day that sell to more than 150 restaurants and coffee shops around North Texas, including The Statler, Cultivar Coffee, Parks Coffee, and La La Land Kind Cafe.
La Casita Bakeshop was also a semifinalist for the James Beard Award for Outstanding Bakery.
Additionally, Maricsa was highlighted by StarChefs a couple of years ago, which dubbed her a rising star pastry chef.
Founded in Dallas in 1972, Half Price Books will become host for the first time to an all-day restaurant, according to DMN. La Casita will initially open for breakfast and lunch. Dinner and cocktails will be offered after the company obtains its liquor license for the Half Price Books location.
La Casita’s flagship location is in Richardson.
