With the Christmas season wrapping up, many face the task of taking down their Christmas tree.

For those with real trees who may wonder what should be done with them, the City of Dallas provides options for recycling Christmas trees.

Christmas trees will be accepted for recycling at Bachman Transfer Station at 9500 Harry Hines Blvd. and McCommas Bluff Landfill at 5100 Youngblood Rd. until Saturday, February 3.

Bachman is open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The McCommas Bluff Landfill is available Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Both locations can only accept natural trees, and all lights and decorations must be removed before being dropped off. The trees will be mulched and reused either on City property or by one of the City’s community partners.

Residents may also dispose of their trees at the Northeast Transfer Station at 7677 Fair Oaks Ave. and the Southwest Transfer Station at 4610 S. Westmoreland Rd.

City sanitation customers can also place trees out for collection during their monthly brush and bulky set-out period. However, these trees will not be recycled.

Last year, the City of Dallas collected and recycled over 7,500 pounds of trees.

Other cities in the metroplex are also providing options for Christmas tree recycling. The City of Fort Worth collects real trees during weekly trash pickups. The City advises residents to remove all lights and decorations from the tree and put the tree on the curb to be picked up, as reported by NBC 5 DFW.

Fort Worth also has drop-off stations for residents for trees to be mulched. Residents should show a recent water bill or driver’s license with a Fort Worth address to verify an active sanitation account. Drop-off locations and operating hours can be found here.
