Police Officer Dies from COVID-19

Grand Prairie Police Department has announced the death of one of its officers, Andy MacDonald, who died from COVID-19 complications on the morning of Monday, Oct. 18.

The department had already suffered the loss of Detective Rodney Mooneyham, 52, on Saturday after a similar battle with COVID-19.

According to the department, Officer Andy MacDonald, a 22-year Grand Prairie Police Department veteran, had served the community since Mar. 29, 1999.

The Grand Prairie Police Department sent out a tweet that said they would not forget MacDonald and his life of service.

The Grand Prairie Police Department also sent an email where MacDonald was described as an officer who was passionate about the community. Additionally, they noted that the 22-year veteran served in the Grand Prairie PD Community Services Division.

Department officials also sent a Facebook post asking for prayers for the family of MacDonald and the entire department.

The Grand Prairie PD did not reveal the vaccination status of the fallen officer.

MacDonald is survived by his wife.
