The Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance has been working on a project to house 2,700 people in need. The initiative, named the Real-Time Rapid Rehousing initiative, launched earlier this month to rehouse over 2,700 people experiencing homelessness in North Texas by October 2023.

They announced on Monday that the organization and its partners met their $10 million private financing goal for a plan to house a large number of people in need.

Metro Dallas Homeless announced that it and its partners had met their $10 million private funding goal to pursue their plan. In addition to that, Dallas County is also contributing about $25 million in federal stimulus cash and is distributing more than 750 housing vouchers along with Dallas Housing Authority, Mesquite, and Grand Prairie.

Significant private backers include Margot Perot and the Perot family, Bank of America, and the Communities Foundation of Texas, who gave $2 million to the initiative.

“It takes many hands to make it all possible,” Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance CEO Joli Robinson said, acknowledging all the contributions made towards the project.

According to Board Chairman Peter Brodsky, the program started housing people without homes this month, and they will use additional private money to cover landlord incentives for the program.

Landlord incentives will be needed to generate housing inventory for the program if landlords refuse tenants based on their source of income. “With an incentive, landlords are much more willing to accept our clients as their tenants,” Brodsky said. “The most typical form of that incentive would be, for instance, a double deposit.”

Organizations like The National and Todd Interests, the Muse Family Foundation, Toyota Beck, the Dallas Citizens Council, and Woods Capital have also supported the initiative.
