After the death of 9-year-old Ezra Blount – the youngest person to die following the mayhem at the Astroworld Festival, Travis Scott has offered to cover all expenses associated with the boy’s funeral.
According to the letter obtained by Rolling Stone on Monday, Ezra’s family rejected the money offered by Travis Scott.
Rolling Stone reported that the rapper’s offer was sent by his new lawyer, Daniel Petrocelli, to Hilliard and his co-counsel, Ben Crump, last Wednesday.
Petrocelli wrote in the offer that his client, Scott, is devastated by the tragedy that happened at the Astroworld Festival and grieves for the families whose loved ones died or were injured during the concert.
Petrocelli also stated that Scott is committed to doing his part to help the families who were affected and has begun the long process of healing in the Houston community.
“Toward that end, Travis would like to pay for the funeral expenses for Mr. Blount’s son,” Petrocelli wrote.
However, Hillard wrote back, stating that the Blount family is rejecting the offer. He noted that he does not doubt that Scott feels remorse and that his healing will be painful, but the rapper must acknowledge that he bears some responsibility for the tragedy.
Hilliard also wrote that Scott must respect that his own devastation is nothing compared to that of Ezra’s family.
As earlier reported by The Dallas Express, Ezra and his father traveled from Dallas to Houston for the concert. He was sitting on his father’s shoulder when the mayhem began, and the crowd started to press against him. Ezra fell from his father’s shoulder and was trampled by the crowd after his father lost consciousness.
The 9-year-old died from injuries sustained from the mayhem and was laid to rest on November 23.
