A fairgoer was hospitalized after falling from a tram at the State Fair of Texas this weekend. The identity of the individual is currently unknown.

Taylor Austin, a spokesperson for the State Fair of Texas, confirmed on Sunday that a fairgoer had fallen from one of the State Fair of Texas trams at about 3:45 p.m. on Saturday.

Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to the scene minutes later at the 4300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue and began to render aid to the injured person.

“First aid responded immediately and determined the person required additional medical attention,” said Austin, according to The Dallas Morning News.

The injured individual was later taken to a local hospital. The nature of the injuries they sustained and their current condition are unknown at this time.

However, they were not the only person injured at the State Fair on Saturday.

The Dallas Police Department arrested 22-year-old Cameron Turner following his alleged involvement in a shooting that left two men and a woman injured in the evening hours. The incident prompted authorities to evacuate the fairgrounds, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.

Barring any additional events of consequence, the State Fair is expected to operate normally this week following a delayed opening on Sunday.

“Safety is the number one priority of the State Fair of Texas. We are committed to upholding the level of security required to ensure the State Fair of Texas event is a safe and family-friendly environment for all fairgoers, vendors, and employees,” said State Fair officials in a statement following both incidents.

The State Fair of Texas opened its gates on September 29 and has since been trying to beat its record-breaking attendance last year. A total of 2,547,289 fairgoers came to have some fun in 2022, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.

Still, despite Saturday’s injuries, this past weekend saw a number of draws for fairgoers, including great weather and an opportunity to view the partial solar eclipse that passed over North Texas in the afternoon.
