Per a Burleson Police Department Press Release, around 7:15 a.m. on January 31, Austin-native Shad Allen King, 39, allegedly approached a male staff member of North Joshua Elementary School at 100 South Ranchway Drive and stole his vehicle.

No weapon was observed and the staff member was ultimately unharmed.

King, nevertheless successful, reportedly sped off in the stolen vehicle.

Burleson Police responded to a call from the school on Monday morning. Officers were able to identify the stolen vehicle on the road, proceeding to attempt to conduct a traffic stop at the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Elk Drive.

King allegedly refused to stop and tried to evade the officers.

Reinforcements from the Alvarado Police Department and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office arrived, and an ensuing car chase lasted around nine miles.

Once King pulled into a driveway within the 4600 block of East Renfro Street, he opened the door of the stolen vehicle and reportedly ran; a foot chase commenced.

Within nineteen minutes of the vehicle theft, King was detained and arrested by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

He was transported to the Mansfield Jail by the Burleson Police Department.

Officers believe that there is no concern that King was specifically targeting North Joshua Elementary School or the staff member. The event was also deemed isolated.

Even so, approximately fifteen minutes prior to the vehicle theft, police received a call from the 2600 block of Southwest Wilshire Boulevard stating a man allegedly confronted a delivery truck driver in an attempted carjacking.

That carjacking attempt occurred less than one mile away from North Joshua Elementary School.

An investigation will be conducted by the Tri-County Auto Theft Task Force and the Joshua Independent School District.
