Deep Ellum drivers will pay higher parking meter rates starting May 8 after a delay tied to ongoing construction.

Hourly parking rates in the Deep Ellum Paid Parking Area will increase to one dollar per hour on May 8, according to a 2024 city memo. That matches the standard rate in effect across the rest of the city’s parking meters since October 2024.

Dallas delayed the increase in Deep Ellum while the Commerce Street two-way conversion project moved toward completion and additional off-street parking capacity came online.

Dallas City Council approved the broader rate hike in May 2024 after more than a decade without changes, as previously reported by The Dallas Express. Officials said the increase was intended to manage parking demand, account for inflation, and improve turnover in high-traffic areas.

Revenue from the meters goes into the city’s general fund. After the May 8 increase takes effect, city staff will monitor parking occupancy in Deep Ellum and decide whether to make additional adjustments under the city’s on-street parking and curb management policy.
