Those struggling to find a sober designated driver for New Year’s Eve need look no further thanks to a joint initiative from DART and Coors offering free holiday rides.

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) and Molson Coors, the company behind Coors and Coors Light beers, will be offering fare-free rides to passengers this New Year’s Eve.

From 6 p.m. on December 31 until the end of service, “rides will be available on the following routes up to the CentrePort/DFW Airport rail station: paratransit, local buses, rail, TRE commuter rail service, and GoLink on-demand service.”

Molson Coors has been promoting the Free Rides program across the U.S. since 1988 and, since that time, has provided fare-free rides to over 8 million people. Alongside Dallas, passengers will have free rides on New Year’s Eve in Charlotte, Chicago, Denver, Milwaukee, Minneapolis-St. Paul, and Phoenix.

“As we embrace the new year, Molson Coors remains committed to championing alcohol responsibility in the communities it serves. It’s an honor to contribute to the night’s festivities across Dallas and welcome in 2024 together,” said Alison Hanrahan, community affairs manager at Molson Coors. “By partnering with DART, our hope is to not only provide free rides, but to foster a sense of community and responsibility as we collectively celebrate this new chapter.”

Last year, approximately 28,000 passengers took advantage of the program in Dallas, which aims to reduce drunk driving incidents by providing partygoers with a safe and easy alternative.

“Partnering with Coors Light for its New Year’s Eve Free Rides program perfectly aligns with our mission of providing affordable and reliable transportation throughout the communities we serve,” said Jeamy Molina, DART’s chief communications officer, in a news release. “As our communities ring in the new year, we are proud to do our part to ensure everyone makes it home safe and sound.”

For many, New Year’s Eve is celebrated by drinking alcohol, which can lead to drunk driving. The National Safety Council estimates that 375 people could die on roadways across the nation this New Year’s Eve, with alcohol playing a significant role.
