Joppa, Texas residents can now have easier access to public transportation after closing the Linfield Road crossing. Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) announced Monday that it will be launching a new program for this area. Joppa, also known by locals as Joppee, is located six miles southeast of Downtown Dallas, near South Central Park.

Because of this initiative, on-demand transportation services will now be accessible to the people of Joppa for the next three years. Registration and proof of residency are required for the Joppa residents that choose to participate in this program. Residents can register at www.DART.org/Joppa or by mail.

After registration, Joppa residents can reserve a ride to one of DART’s 15 designated neighborhood locations for drop-off and pickup.

Passengers must be 18 years of age or older to request a ride. Under-age passengers must be accompanied by an adult. Up to four people can ride in each Joppa Rides Uber.

Passengers can reserve a trip online at Uber.com, or they can make a same-day reservation, preschedule a trip, or request an accessible vehicle by calling 214-515-7272. The Joppa Rides program will run every day from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Passengers can reserve up to two free Uber trips a day.

Earlier this month, DART announced that many bus numbers and routes are changing as a part of their new “DART Zoom” system. The initiative will focus on making bus transportation more effective and efficient.

“It is a complete redesign of our existing bus network,” said Director of External Relations for Dart, Gordon Shuttles. “You’re going to start seeing bags on your bus stops. In most cases, there’s going to be slight changes to the bus stops. You’re going to see a sign that says either this route is being removed, it’s being numbered, or it’s being eliminated altogether.”

DART is hoping the system will alleviate congestion and make things easier for passengers. The program will officially launch on January 24, 2022.
