Dallas Water Utilities will begin grouting an abandoned wastewater pipeline running alongside White Rock Trail and Garland Road, with crews scheduled to mobilize the week of June 15.
The project covers roughly 2,800 feet of an abandoned 36-inch-diameter wastewater main between E. Lawther Drive and San Rafael Drive, the city announced. The work is expected to wrap up in September 2026.
The grouting effort follows the appearance of a sinkhole earlier this year, next to the trail above the abandoned line. Crews backfilled the sinkhole immediately and have continued monitoring the area while awaiting the grouting work, which the city described as a long-term step to reduce the risk of future sinkholes.
Dallas Water Utilities is coordinating the project with the Park and Recreation and Transportation and Public Works departments, as well as the Texas Department of Transportation. Signs carrying project and contact information will be posted on-site for residents with questions.
Traffic and Trail Closures
The outside westbound lane of Garland Road between E. Lawther Drive and San Rafael Drive will be closed during construction. The contractor plans to work Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to speed completion. Outside those hours and on Sundays, the westbound lane will reopen.
The segment of White Rock Trail between E. Lawther Drive and Winsted Drive will be closed for the full duration of the project. Detours will be marked at both ends of the closure, with signage and message boards in place.
E. Lawther Drive between Garland Road and Winfrey Point Way will also be closed to vehicles to allow trail users to detour safely.
The city is urging the public to obey all construction signage and to avoid moving or going around the barricades.
