Dallas police called in the bomb squad Friday morning after a suspicious package was reported at the intersection of South Griffin Street and Wood Street downtown near the Earle Cabell Federal Building.

Officers responded during the morning rush hour and shut down several streets while the bomb squad investigated. Authorities later cleared the package safely.

“No threat was found,” police said.

Sources with the department told WFAA the item turned out to be a small personal alarm that had been discarded in a trash can.

The streets reopened, and the scene was declared all clear around 10:30 a.m.

On Monday, The Dallas Express reported on a bomb scare at a Highland Village apartment complex that prompted a response by the Denton Bomb Squad and extra security protocols at a local school. In that instance, the suspicious substance turned out to be a volatile chemical that authorities safely detonated at another location.

Last month, multiple schools across Texas received bomb threats, causing disruptions to classes. After thorough campus searches by law enforcement, the threats were deemed to be not credible.
