Community organizers from Dallas Justice Now condemned “progressive” politicians for apparently ignoring the actual desires of black communities and foisting policies on them that black voters do not want.

Dallas Justice Now describes itself as a “member-driven project of activists, researchers, and local leaders dedicated to making our city more just.”

The organization took aim at several keystone Democratic Party policies, claiming that such goals are at odds with what the majority of the black community actually desires.

“Black community members want educational opportunities for kids,” a representative from Dallas Justice Now explained to The Dallas Express. “Wealthy whites in Highland Park can decide between high performing public schools or top tier private schools. That keeps both schools accountable.”

“Why do the Democrats believe that we don’t deserve the same?” the organization asked.

To support its claim, Dallas Justice Now pointed to a survey conducted in 2019 by the Federation for Children, which suggested 67% of black voters favored a school choice program that provided their children with more educational options.

In contrast, however, only 56% of Democrats expressed support for the idea.

“Democrats shamefully continue to block charter schools from coming to Black neighborhoods because they are beholden to white majority teachers unions,” Dallas Justice Now alleged.

Similarly, the activist group asserted that black residents oppose efforts to defund the police and condemned local politicians that suggested otherwise, such as City Councilmember Adam Bazaldua, who supported reducing pay for police in 2021.

Dallas Justice Now cited a recent poll conducted by news agency TheGrio that concluded an overwhelming majority of black voters, nearly 83%, opposed defunding or reducing the funding for police departments.

A poll conducted by The Dallas Express suggested a majority of non-white residents in the city would agree with Dallas Justice Now’s claims, with 66% of minority respondents reporting that crime was the top issue to them.

Relatedly, Dallas Justice Now recently condemned Dallas District Attorney John Creuzot for making the city more dangerous, claiming, as reported by The Dallas Express, “In Creuzot’s Dallas, black women are more likely to be victimized and less likely to get justice and closure.”
