According to a CBS 11 News report, the 15-year-old victim of the Timberview High School shooting was released from the hospital over the weekend.
As previously reported by Dallas Express, Zacchaeus Selby, 15, was shot and critically injured by Timothy Simpkins, 18, following a brawl between the two boys. Simpkins also wounded three other people, including 25-year-old teacher Calvin Pettit.
Following the shooting incident on Oct. 6, all school and after-school activities were canceled in the high school. Classes, however, resumed at the school on Monday, Oct. 11.
Simpkins had fled the shooting scene immediately but surrendered to police later that day. He was charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Simpkins was released from jail on a $75,000 bond on Oct. 7. Simpkins’ bail conditions require him to wear an ankle monitor and stay away from the high school.
Following the shooting, Simpkins’ family claimed the 18-year-old had carried out the act because he was a victim of bullying. His family also claimed that Simpkins had his belongings stolen on two occasions. Simpkins’ family also claimed that other students were jealous of his expensive lifestyles and saw him as an easy target.
Besides the general complaints, Simpkins’ family also made direct bullying allegations against Selby. They claimed Selby’s friends had jumped Simpkins and had beaten him recently. Simpkin’s family also pointed to a viral video of the fight between Simpkins and Selby as evidence to back up their bullying claims. In the video, Selby could be seen repeatedly punching Simpkins.
Selby’s family has, however, denied the claims. They admitted to being shocked at the video but said they had never seen the 15-year-old that way. “I’ve never seen him fight with even his sister or his older brother. He’s a mild-mannered, soft-spoken child,” said Kathy Selby, Zacchaeus’s grandmother.
In a GoFundMe page that was set up for Selby, his family described him as “a great brother, boyfriend, and coworker and does not have a bone in his body to bully anyone.”
The latest update posted to Selby’s GoFundMe page stated that the 15-year-old is still in recovery but getting stronger every day. “Zacc will soon be strong enough to work with physical therapy as doctors are hopeful for a full recovery within the coming months,” the update read.
