Three churches and one pregnancy resource center in Texas were vandalized over Mother’s Day weekend as tensions rise across the country over the leaked U.S. Supreme Court draft opinion that could overturn Roe v. Wade if made the majority decision.
Members of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Houston discovered pro-abortion graffiti painted on the church’s main entrance and side door on Monday morning. The graffiti read, “Pro-Choice is Pro-Life!”
Father Peter Damian Harris, the pastor of the Houston church, told Fox 26, “It’s very unfortunate that people would desecrate the church like this, take their frustration out on the church.”
Because of the incident, Father Harris decided to limit church hours for the foreseeable future, only opening for confession and mass.
“It’s very unfortunate, but I’d rather take the necessary precautions than run the risk of someone coming to desecrate our sacred space,” he said.
Two other Catholic churches were vandalized in the neighboring town of Katy. At St. Bartholemew, the church’s tabernacle was stolen. The church’s pastor reported the theft Monday morning.
In his interview with Fox 26, Father Harris also stated that vandals had entered St. Elizabeth Anne Seaton and “tried to desecrate the Eucharist.”
News of the vandalism against the three Catholic Churches comes after a pregnancy resource center in Denton was vandalized with graffiti. The Loreto House pregnancy resource center, an abortion alternatives project sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth, was targeted early Saturday, May 7.
A vandal spray-painted “Not a Clinic” and “Forced Birth is Murder” on the building and its sign. A surveillance camera captured footage of the act.
More reports are emerging of attacks on Catholic Churches elsewhere in the country, ranging from graffiti to arson.
Churches in Boulder and Fort Collins, Colorado, suffered vandalism in the previous week. Vandals spray-painted pro-abortion slogans and broke some windows in the incidents.
In Madison, Wisconsin, however, vandals set fire to the office of an anti-abortion group. Nobody was injured, but the police continue to investigate.
