Groot Hospitality is opening a new restaurant called Komodo in Dallas this April.

The upscale Asian-inspired restaurant will open on April 7 at The Epic, 2550 Pacific Ave. It will take up two floors and a total of almost 2,300 square feet, seating up to 250 diners, according to D Magazine.

The Epic is a massive building housing over 250,000 square feet of office space, over 300 luxury apartment homes, hotel space with over 164 rooms, and over 40,000 square feet of retail space.

The Komodo Dallas has been in the works since 2019, when The Epic was still in the development process.

Joe Beard, president of Westdale Real Estate Investment and Management, who spearheaded the project, told The Dallas Morning News in 2019, “We were real happy to see Komodo, which is a very successful restaurant brand in Miami, pick Deep Ellum for their first location here.”

The menu will be similar to the one at Komodo in Miami, Florida, where the menu includes dumplings, maki, and sashimi, as well as steak and chicken entrees. The featured items include Peking duck and prime bone-in ribeye.

There is one menu addition that will be exclusive to the Dallas location, according to D Magazine: Szechuan Texas quail.

If Komodo Dallas’ cocktails are anything like Komodo Miami’s, diners can expect around 15 specialty craft cocktails featuring creative pairings.

For dessert, Komodo Miami has a matcha shortcake and an ube flan, as well as mochi and a Japanese cheesecake.

Komodo will be Groot Hospitality’s first business venture in Dallas. According to a statement that the company’s founder, David Grutman, gave to D Magazine, Komodo Miami was the company’s biggest success.

While the restaurant will open this weekend, it looks like reservations are filling up fast. As of Sunday, the soonest available date to reserve a table for two is April 19. Reservations at the Komodo Dallas can be made at the restaurant’s website here.
