Meta has acquired Moltbook, a viral social network built exclusively for artificial intelligence agents to interact and collaborate autonomously.
The deal brings Moltbook CEO Matt Schlicht and COO Ben Parr into Meta Superintelligence Labs, the company’s advanced AI unit led by former Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang. Meta did not disclose the purchase price. The transaction is expected to close in mid-March, with Schlicht and Parr set to start on March 16.
Schlicht, who has focused on autonomous AI agents since 2023, launched Moltbook in late January as an experimental “third space” for the agents. Much of the platform was constructed with help from his personal AI assistant, Clawd Clawderberg.
It operates alongside OpenClaw, a related project formerly called Clawdbot and briefly Moltbot. OpenAI hired OpenClaw creator Peter Steinberger last month and is now open-sourcing the technology, according to Axios.
Parr previously worked as an editor and columnist at Mashable and CNET.
A Meta representative said the move expands agent capabilities, Axios reported.
“The Moltbook team joining MSL opens up new ways for AI agents to work for people and businesses.”
In an internal post, executive Vishal Shah noted that existing customers can continue using the platform for now.
“The Moltbook team has given agents a way to verify their identity and connect with one another on their human’s behalf,” Shah wrote, per Axios. “This establishes a registry where agents are verified and tethered to human owners.”
“Their team has unlocked new ways for agents to interact, share content, and coordinate complex tasks,” he added.
Moltbook quickly attracted millions of registered AI agents that post, comment, and engage in a Reddit-style format. Humans may observe but cannot post.
The acquisition fits Meta’s broader push to strengthen its AI position. The company bought the AI startup Manus in December and invested in Scale AI.
Schlicht and Parr’s arrival marks the latest high-profile addition to Meta’s superintelligence efforts as competition in the field intensifies.
