DIRTT Environmental Solutions announced that the company has opened a U.S. headquarters in Dallas, joining hundreds of companies that are relocating or opening new offices in Texas to take advantage of its business-friendly climate. DIRTT is based in Calgary, Canada, and provides environmentally sustainable solutions to modular construction and design.

“As the Dallas-Fort Worth region continues to experience a surge in high-profile corporate relocations and unprecedented overall economic growth, we see this as a strategic opportunity to join the vibrant North Texas business community,” said Jennifer Warawa, DIRTT’s Dallas-based chief commercial officer, in a press release.

DIRTT also has showroom facilities in Chicago, New York, Salt Lake City, and Toronto, and a manufacturing facility in South Carolina that makes panels used in the construction of office spaces, healthcare facilities, and other spaces that use modular building techniques.

Founded in 2003 with a vision of providing a digital design solution to construction, the company has continued to expand over the years.

“As employees come back to the office, corporations and business owners are realizing that the type of office they had two years ago isn’t what will work post-pandemic, particularly with changing expectations about hybrid work arrangements. That’s where DIRTT steps in to provide flexibility — and most importantly, adaptability — to rapidly design, build and update their environments,” added Warawa.

The newly-opened Dallas location will serve as a hands-on laboratory, according to the press release. The facility will allow architects, designers, contractors, and business community members to use the company’s technology, products, and services to design flexible, adaptable spaces while reducing costs and providing environmental sustainability for projects.

Texas has become a hot spot for business relocations in the last several years. Some of the reasons for the relocations are obvious, such as low taxes that help companies develop and build without losing vast sums of money. Other reasons have to do with location, the availability of a workforce, the state’s central location, and ease of access to transportation methods.

Major tech companies like Tesla, Oracle, and Apple relocated to Texas over the last few years, along with business banking groups like Charles Schwab.

In addition to attracting companies, Texas has also proved alluring to people in general.

The Dallas-Fort Worth area has been one of the most popular destinations for people relocating from other cities. The region has seen a 10.4% increase in population over the last 10 years and shows signs that the trend will continue, according to U.S. Census Bureau Data.

“Texas continues to reach unprecedented milestones thanks to our unwavering commitment to economic freedom and our young, skilled, growing, and diverse workforce,” said Governor Greg Abbott in a press release in December 2021. “By reaching nearly 13 million jobs last month, Texas has surpassed our pre-pandemic employment levels — a remarkable achievement and testament to our welcoming business climate and strong workforce. We will continue to unleash the full might of our economy, attract new business investments, and ensure a more prosperous future for all who call Texas home.”
