A New York frozen yogurt company is opening a franchise in Frisco as part of a big expansion in Texas, with the opening of six stores around the state this spring.

“Sachin and Aparna Deshpande, a husband-and-wife duo, will open a store in Frisco,” according to a news release. “The pair bring a combined background in tech/IT and accounting to the new business. The franchisee support offered by the brand is what initially drew them to 16 Handles over competitors.”

Founded in 2008 in Manhattan, 16 Handles operates 30 stores. In addition to frozen yogurt, its menu includes ice cream, drinks, and vegan soft serve.

“We are eager to go big in Texas, and I’m ecstatic that we have had the opportunity to team up with experienced local business owners who are passionate about bringing the best dessert to their communities,” CEO Neil Hershman said in the release. “16 Handles is focused on scaling at the right time in the right way and bringing a lot of excitement around frozen yogurt and soft serve.”

The menu, as the company name implies, offers 16 flavors and more than 50 toppings and sauces, along with frozen cookie dough, cakes, and take-home pints.

“The energy right now within 16 Handles and the leadership of the company is so forward-thinking in looking at what the next generation wants,” Ryan Waugh, who will be opening up two franchises in Texas, said. “We are extremely excited to partner with the brand and grow in Texas during this exciting time of growth.”

16 Handles has signed a franchise agreement with Waugh and his wife to open locations in Magnolia and Houston. Myles and Tabatha Abshire have signed an agreement to open a store in Missouri City. Jim Duffy has done the same for one store in Austin. David and Lin Ding will open a location in Richmond.
