A famous bridal retailer filed for bankruptcy Monday morning.

David’s Bridal — which has been in business since 1950 — announced that it was filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection at a court in New Jersey, according to a press release.

“Over the last several years, we have taken meaningful strides in our transformation to fulfill the needs of the brides of today and tomorrow,” James Marcum, CEO of David’s Bridal, said in the press release.

“We have successfully modernized our marketing and customer interaction processes and driven our retail service levels to best in class. Nonetheless, our business continues to be challenged by the post-COVID environment and uncertain economic conditions, leading us to take this step to identify a buyer who can continue to operate our business going forward.

“We are determined to stay focused on our future, because we believe we have an important role in ensuring that every bride, no matter her budget, can have her perfect dress.”

David’s Bridal filed for bankruptcy five years ago as well.

Prior to filing for bankruptcy, the company announced that it would be restructuring and eliminating more than 9,000 jobs across the United States, reported NBC DFW.

The company reassured its customers on its restructuring website that the store would remain open and that gift cards and store credits would be honored.

“Our commitment to serving the modern bride is stronger than ever. While we are exploring a sale of our company in a transparent, court-supervised process, our stores are open, and we intend to fulfill orders without disruption or delay,” the Bride FAQ section of the website reads.

David’s Bridal says it has served more than 70 million women in its 70-year history.

“We are grateful to the seven decades of brides and customers who have trusted us with the most special events of their lives, as well as to the dedicated associates and valued partners who make our customers’ dreams come true. We remain as committed as ever to providing excellent service, delivering for our brides and customers, and being part of magical moments,” Marcum said in the press release.

Dallas is fortunate to still have businesses in the garment industry.
Back in the 1980’s when I owned part of a wholesale/retail apparel business, the Nation’s and Dallas’ apparel industry was huge…much larger than it is now with everything farmed out overseas.
