Freshly baked pie is more than just a seasonal treat for Dallas pie shop Humble, it’s a way of life.

Humble was launched in 2018 by husband-wife duo Sean and Erin Jett, who relish in the simplicity of freshly baked delicious pies.

“Pie is love,” Sean told NBC 5 DFW. “Pie is really associated with memories and that’s something that has always been close to my heart.”

In preparation for a surge in Thanksgiving pre-orders, the team at Humble has been working hard to turn out pies from its location at 9014 Garland Rd. While over 500 pies are slated for pick-up on November 22, the shop is projecting to sell more than 2,500 by the time the holiday season ends.

While the time-honored classics of pumpkin pie and pecan pie are on offer, Humble also has other specialty offerings, including cranberry apple, sweet potato, and the Mulberry Street cannoli featuring chantilly cream, raspberry jam, and pistachios.

“We work our tail ends off for five solid days getting everyone’s pies ready,” Sean explained.

“My goal was to try and make this feel like sitting down in grandma’s house or a little café in New Orleans,” Sean said of his business. “Come on in sit down enjoy a slice of pie, get a cup of coffee, and just relax. Have a good time.”

Yet life at Humble hasn’t been without its darker moments.

The pie shop burned to the ground in 2022, yet Sean rallied to fulfill a wedding order by finding a commissary kitchen to work in. Through this kind of dedication and plenty of community support, Humble reopened eight months later.

“This is what we do, we have people in this community and this neighborhood that love coming here,” Sean said. “We had weddings that were on the books, we still covered all of our prior obligations.”

That’s not all — this June, Sean was diagnosed with cancer. Although this has disrupted his taste buds, it hasn’t dampened his creativity in the kitchen.

Other pie flavors featured on the establishment’s menu hint not only at the Jetts’ inventiveness but also at Sean’s Louisiana roots. For instance, the decadent Bayou Goo features a filling of sweet cream cheese and candied pecans that has been topped with chocolate cream, chantilly cream, chocolate shavings, and more candied pecans.
