A fatal crash shut down Interstate 35 West in Fort Worth early Monday morning, according to police.

Around 5:30 a.m., a crash was reported in the northbound lane of Garden Acres Drive. Police said there were several cars involved in the accident but a man in a pickup truck had to be extracted from his vehicle. He was taken to John Peter Smith hospital.

All northbound lanes were closed as crews worked to clean up debris from the crash.

Police confirm that there was at least one fatality. The victim’s identity as well as that of others involved in the crash have not officially been released. It is unclear whether the victim was the man removed from a pickup truck by police.
