Lake Highlands senior infielder Asher Thompson has signed to play at Austin College.
In being named to the All-District Team and tabbed by Lake Highlands coaches as Mr. Wildcat, Thompson hit .292 in district play this season with a .414 on-base percentage.
The school’s athletic department recently hosted a Spring Signing Day, where Thompson was one of eight athletes who made their decisions official by formally signing letters of intent.
Thompson seemed to have his own, personal cheering group at the event
“We’re really honored that Asher gets to play baseball in college because of the discipline and the opportunity that it continues to provide, but also because sportsmanship and teamwork is a life lesson,” said Jenny Thomspon, an Austin alum along with her husband Chris. “It’s going to be exciting, but we will try to give him some space.”
Lake Highlands athletic coordinator Lonnie Jordan beamed with pride about all the recruits.
“These young men have put in the time and put in the sacrifices for their teammates, and it is paying off in a big way,” he said. “This pandemic has been difficult – I know it was hard on parents, teachers, kids and administration. But we have had an incredible season because of all the things it takes to be successful, and the number one ingredient is great athletes.”
