Led by the one, two punch of junior Symran Shah and Howard University recruit Morgan Horrell, Lewisville Hebron recently captured its first UIL 6A title at the Legacy Hills Golf Club in Georgetown.

Shah led the winners with a two-day cumulative score of 146, while Horrell wasn’t far behind with a 151, as Hebron finished seven strokes ahead of the field with an overall team score of 598.

When it came to the team’s focus, Horrell said that it was absolutely off the charts.

“We had a lot of preparation going into the tournament,” she told the Hebron Hawkeye. “We were there Saturday and Sunday and the tournament started Monday, so that was two nights of thinking about what’s going to happen that first day. I don’t think the team was necessarily nervous, we all just felt hopeful and we didn’t know how the day would end.”

Hebron fans and onlookers alike took note of all their hard work, which included players being faced with strong winds and steady rain drizzle.

“Lift that trophy high,” read a post on the UIL Twitter page. “Lewisville Hebron takes first-place in 6A championship. Hebron golf are the Conference 6A State Girls Golf Team champions. The first golf team title in school history.”

Horrell said the team found much of its motivation through its ability to persevere.

“Second day going in we all felt excited, we were just ready to take it and actually compete,” Horrell said. “Everyone’s competitive level rose a lot. I think that was the major difference, we were just really excited.”
