Obituary for O.B. Hutchison
O.B. Hutchison passed away peacefully at his home in Dallas at the age of 91. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Rosella Tailor Hutchison, sons Michael Don Hutchison (Will O’Neil) of Dallas, John Scott Hutchison of Dallas, grandchildren, Michael Don Hutchison Jr. (Erica Hutchison) of Austin, Rosella Hutchison Hindelang (Brad Hindelang) of Georgetown, Ryan Daniel Hutchison (Audrey Hutchison) of Austin, great grandchildren, Huskel Hutchison, Clara Hutchison, Wyatt Hutchison, Otto Hindelang, Oliver Hindelang and many other beloved family members. Predeceasing O.B. were his mother and father, Lula Stovall Hutchison and Oscar Bryan Hutchison, sister Dorothy Hutchison Dees, brothers James Earl Hutchison, Billy Joe Hutchison, Elton Ray Hutchison, and sister-in-law, wife of James Hutchison, Zora Willeford Hutchison. Also surviving O.B. is his sister-in-law, widow of Ray Hutchison, Ambassador Kay Bailey Hutchison of Dallas.
O.B. was born in the Dallas area. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy at an early age. He later graduated from Southern Methodist University and began a 40-year career at Mobil Oil Corporation. He held financial positions at Mobil in Dallas, then in New York and Bermuda. His last position at Mobil was as President of Mobil’s Bermuda based insurance subsidiary.
During his time in New York, O.B.’s outside activities included being a founding director and then President of the Long Island Hearing Society, an organization that assisted young deaf children and their parents. He actively participated in local charitable and political affairs and was a board member of Century Federal Savings and Loan Association in Cedarhurst, New York. During his seven years in Bermuda, he served as a board member of London based Britannia Steam Ship Insurance Association. Britannia is a major liability insurer of world shipping fleets including those of Exxon-Mobil. O.B. and Rosella enjoyed extensive traveling during their time in New York and Bermuda and after their retirement in Dallas.
A family viewing will be held on Friday, June 4, 2021 at Restland Funeral Home. A public Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 2pm in the Wildwood Chapel
