High temperatures and a lack of rain this summer have led Plano officials to extend the city’s water conservation measures into September.
Plano Mayor John Muns asked residents to “increase their water conservation efforts by reducing watering times by 2 minutes in each sprinkler zone through September 15.”
Muns encouraged residents to only water on their designated watering days. Residents with addresses ending in an even number may water on Mondays and Thursdays, and those with addresses ending in an odd number may water on Tuesdays and Fridays.
The mayor predicts that the total demand on the water system will drop between 5-10% if residents adhere to these restrictions.
The EPA recommends other measures to conserve water inside the home, such as using your dishwasher instead of hand-washing dishes, using a compost pile rather than your garbage disposal, and washing only full loads of laundry.
