Officials said on Tuesday that the alleged shooter found dead after a standoff with Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) deputies last month has been identified as Kemal Shea.
The Dallas Express reported that deputies responded to a residence in the 500 block of Indian Creek Drive in Fort Worth just before 9:30 a.m. on June 23 to serve a warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
As they approached, the man allegedly fired several bullets in the direction of the deputies.
Deputies then took a defensive stance around the mobile home and requested the SWAT team, according to TCSO.
The suspect continuously fired at the police and refused to exit the home. Officers say he then dropped an “incendiary device” on the porch. The home was set on fire, according to the sheriff’s office, by a bottle containing a burning rag.
Fire crews reported significant damage to the house. Shea’s body was discovered inside once the fire was extinguished. His cause of death is still being determined by the medical examiner’s office.
The standoff lasted from 9:30 a.m. until 2:40 p.m.
Police reported that a Tarrant County deputy was injured slightly after being struck, likely by shrapnel. He has now recovered and is back on duty.
