Ben’s Soft Pretzel Shop is expanding to The Colony.
The new Grandscape location joins the three shops in Fort Worth, making for more than 140 locations nationwide.
Pretzel fanatic Scott Jones and Amish baker Ben Miller, who with his wife honed the company’s pretzel recipe, founded Ben’s in 2008 with the help of businessman Brian Krider. They opened their first brick-and-mortar pretzel shop inside the Concord Mall in Elkhart, Indiana, which is still operating today.
Because they use imported German salt, their pretzels are near twice the size of other soft pretzels. You can get them with a variety of sauces and “Bake and Shake” toppings for even more flavor variety.
The Jumbo Soft Pretzel is one of the most popular items on the menu. Other tasty pretzel creations at Ben’s include Buggy Bites, Pretzel Stix, all-beef Pretzel Dogs, and Pretzel Kloche.
Gary Freeman is responsible for the North Texas locations. He and his wife, Latrice, wanted to go into business for themselves, and Ben’s was perfect for them. In a statement to CultureMap Dallas, Freeman said, “It’s an exciting time for me and my family but also for the Dallas community for us to be able to bring Ben’s Soft Pretzels to everyone here.”
Texas is no stranger to pretzels as there are several pretzel chains across the state, including Auntie Anne’s, Wetzel’s Pretzels, Pretzel Factory, and Mr. Pretzels.
German settlers came to Texas in the 1830s. The “German Belt” stretched from Galveston and Houston east to Kerrville, Mason, and Hondo west.
German cuisine, like the pretzel, is still enjoyed across the state, and now it can be appreciated in The Colony at Ben’s Soft Pretzel’s newest location.
