Summer is upon us, and with gas prices soaring, staying close to home does not mean you have to sacrifice fun. Grapevine has indoor and outdoor adventures that will please every family member.

Grapevine is located in the heart of Dallas-Fort Worth and is a family-friendly destination for a staycation in North Texas. Daytrippers can visit historic downtown Main Street, which displays Grapevine’s rich history and includes 80 shops, wineries, and restaurants.

The 1.8 million-square-foot Grapevine Mills Mall offers a cool oasis from the summer heat and plenty of fun activities for kids, such as the LEGOLAND Discovery Center, SEA LIFE Grapevine Aquarium, and Peppa Pig World of Play. Spend the day playing, shopping, and dining, with 180 stores to explore.

Grapevine’s history is on display at Nash Farm and the numerous museums and art galleries, and the Palace Theatre has a summer schedule of films and live performances.

Great Wolf Lodge hosts the largest indoor waterpark in North Texas for water lovers. There are waterslides for big and little kids, a wave pool, and a lazy river.

In keeping with the “everything is bigger in Texas” theme, the Gaylord Texan Resort is home to the Paradise Springs water park. This 10-acre pool complex features multiple winding waterslides, a 600-foot-long lazy river, and a 6,000-square-foot family lagoon with a giant water playhouse.

Grapevine Lake has a lot to offer outdoor enthusiasts. Encompassing 8,000 acres, Grapevine Lake is a popular spot for boating, water skiing, windsurfing, fishing, and camping. The lake is one of the best places in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for biking and hiking, thanks to its beautiful, rolling shoreline and more than nine miles of wilderness trails.

While at the lake, visitors can take a tour, stand-up paddleboard, or learn to surf with DFW Surf. Yoga enthusiasts can enjoy yoga on the lake with SUP Yoga.

Scott’s Landing Marina, the largest on the lake, offers quick access to Grapevine Lake’s main body of water. Silver Lake Marina is home to many charter companies, including Island Bound Adventures, Black Watch Sailing Charters, and Sam’s Dock.
