The SPCA of Texas is offering free pet adoptions Thursday evening at a Halloween event in Dallas, giving residents a chance to meet shelter animals while attending a family-friendly celebration.
The Trunk or Treat event is scheduled for October 29 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center, 2400 Lone Star Drive.
Admission is free, and adoption fees will be waived during the event, according to the organization’s announcement.
Costumes, Treats And Free Adoptions
The SPCA plans trunk-or-treating, decorated vehicles distributing treats, a photo booth, and costume contests for children, adults, and pets. Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes, and families may bring their pets to the celebration.
The organization is accepting RSVPs through its event page. The announcement does not specify the number or types of animals available for the fee-waived promotion, so prospective adopters should confirm availability with shelter staff.
North Texas Shelters Continue Adoption Efforts
The SPCA of Texas offers adoptions at its Dallas shelter, participating PetSmart locations, and community events. Its adoption resources also include information about foster placements and available dogs, cats, and small mammals.
The event comes during a year in which shelters across the Dallas area have sought help placing animals into homes. In June, The Dallas Express reported that Dallas Animal Services had exceeded its preferred shelter capacity after taking in animals from large-scale cruelty seizures.
That report concerned Dallas Animal Services, a separate municipal shelter, rather than the SPCA of Texas. Both organizations provide adoption opportunities in the Dallas area.
Another Adoption Event Scheduled Saturday
Residents who cannot attend Thursday’s event have another opportunity this weekend.
The SPCA has scheduled mobile adoptions at the Halloween Family Festival at the AT&T Performing Arts Center, 2403 Flora Street, on Saturday, October 31, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to its calendar.
The Thursday celebration ends at 8 p.m. Interested residents can check the SPCA’s event page for details and its website for adoption information before visiting.
