W.A. Meacham Middle School students and staff will temporarily move to another Fort Worth campus after heavy rainfall left portions of the school building unsafe to occupy, Fort Worth Independent School District officials said.

According to Superintendent Peter Licata, the damage was assessed by district facilities personnel, contractors, and safety teams, who determined that repairs would take several weeks to complete.

“The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority,” Licata said in a letter to families, WFAA reported.

Students To Move to Former Elementary School

Meacham students will not attend school Monday as staff prepares for the temporary relocation.

Beginning Tuesday, students will attend classes at the vacant Briscoe Elementary School at 2751 Yuma Ave. in Fort Worth. The building is currently unoccupied after the district voted to close the elementary school during the summer.

The district said the temporary move is intended to keep instruction going with as little disruption as possible while repairs are completed at Meacham.

Students Will Keep Current Teachers and Programs

Although classes will take place at a different campus, students will remain enrolled as Meacham Middle School students.

District officials said students will:

  • Continue learning with their current teachers.
  • Follow the existing Meacham bell schedule.
  • Remain in their current courses and support services.
  • Continue participating in extracurricular and athletic programs.
  • Receive support from the same campus leadership, including the principal, assistant principals, and counselors.

The district said the arrangement is designed to provide stability and maintain continuity during the temporary transition.

Return Date Has Not Been Set

Fort Worth ISD has not announced when students and staff will be able to return to the Meacham campus.

The district said repairs will take several weeks and that the building will not reopen until officials determine that it is safe and fully operational.

Parents were provided additional information about transportation, arrival and dismissal procedures, campus maps, and other logistics. Families with questions can contact Fort Worth ISD at 817-814-1950.

Licata acknowledged that moving schools unexpectedly could be difficult for students and families.

“We recognize that a school serves as more than a building. It is a community,” Licata wrote, per WFAA.

He said the district would support families throughout the transition while prioritizing student safety and continued instruction.
