Lewisville police have identified an eighty-one-year-old driver who died after a semi struck his vehicle in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The eighty-one-year-old man was struck after his vehicle was stopped in the southbound lanes of I-35E in Lewisville at approximately 1:45 a.m.

According to Lewisville police, the victim’s vehicle was struck from behind by the eighteen-wheeler, with the collision pushing his vehicle a few hundred feet down the road.

The collision also caused the big rig’s fuel tank to rupture and spill its contents across several lanes of the highway.

According to NBC 5 News, Lewisville police have identified the victim as Kenneth Olson Walter, 81, of Fort Worth.

According to Lewisville police, Walter spoke with firefighters moments after the crash before he was taken to a nearby hospital to be evaluated.

Walter died at the hospital at approximately 3:15 a.m., Lewisville police said, according to NBC 5 News.
