Elon Musk has announced plans to launch a new political party called the “America Party,” signaling an ambitious move to disrupt the traditional two-party system following a split with President Donald Trump.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, this decision came shortly after the passage of the “Big Beautiful Bill,” a new sweeping tax and spending bill that has been supported by Trump and openly opposed by Musk.

Musk had previously threatened to form a new party if the bill passed, and made good on that promise over the weekend, declaring the America Party’s formation as a direct challenge to what he called the “Democrat-Republican uniparty.”

Musk opened the weekend by posting a poll on X, previously known as Twitter, on the Fourth of July asking respondents whether they would “want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system!”

Just over 65% of respondents agreed with that statement, prompting Musk to post again, declaring that a new political party must be formed.

“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom,” he wrote.

Trump, who had appointed Musk to lead the Department of Government Efficiency before their falling out, lashed out at Musk on Truth Social, calling him a “TRAIN WRECK” and accusing him of going “completely off the rails.”

“He even wants to start a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States – The System seems not designed for them. The one thing Third Parties are good for is the creation of Complete and Total DISRUPTION & CHAOS, and we have enough of that with the Radical Left Democrats, who have lost their confidence and their minds!” wrote the President.

The statements made by Trump are largely supported by the extensive history of the U.S., with many third-party political parties creating more issues than solutions in the political landscape.

Throughout American history, third parties such as the Prohibition Party and the Socialist Party have emerged, often focusing on specific issues or representing disaffected voters.

While these third parties rarely win major elections, they can play a pivotal role by drawing votes away from one of the two major parties, sometimes altering the outcome of close races.

The creation of Musk’s “America Party” would likely have a similar impact, with the most probable scenario being that more Republican voters are swayed than Democratic voters, resulting in a disproportionately negative effect on right-wing candidates.
