North Texas’ On the Road Garage is teaming up with Aurora Innovation to offer an apprenticeship and upskilling program to prepare workers for careers in the autonomous vehicle industry.

Aurora recently made headlines for launching the first commercial self-driving trucking service in the United States, with inaugural runs taking place on the I-45 between Dallas and Houston. Now, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based Aurora is teaming up with a local company to offer an exciting opportunity to expand careers in the self-driving space.

On the Road Garage, which has two locations in North Texas, including one in Dallas, will co-create curriculum and training with Aurora. Known as OTR Advanced Vehicle Technology–Powered by Aurora, the program will focus on AV and electric vehicle repair, ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) calibration, advanced vehicle technologies, AV terminal operations, and advanced diagnostics.

“This program is about more than just jobs—it’s about building equitable access to the future of mobility… Through this collaboration with Aurora, we’re creating a national model for inclusive workforce development in emerging transportation technologies,” said On the Road VP Roy Villarreal in a statement, per Dallas Innovates.

Notably, participants in the program will get hands-on training on Aurora’s self-driving vehicle platforms.

“At Aurora, we’re not just building a business, we’re building an industry,” Aurora President Ossa Fisher said in a statement.

“We’re proud to partner with On the Road Garage to build career pipelines that will not only train future transportation industry leaders, but prioritize inclusivity as new jobs are created to support autonomous trucking.”
