Yaga’s Entertainment has announced that Galveston Island’s Mardi Gras celebration is set to make its big return in 2022. The festival was canceled last year due to the pandemic.

In the new year, the 111th Annual Celebration will be held from February 18 through March 1. The big event will be held at Galveston Strand District once again.

The event will feature live concerts and multiple colorful and festive parades each day, as well as several balcony parties, a big ball, and other festivities to celebrate. More than 350,000 people are expected to attend.

Set to perform during the Galveston Island’s Mardi Gras celebration in 2022 is the rock group 3 Doors Down, country star Matt Stell, and Tejano band Siggno. Additional guest acts will be announced at a later date.

The festival organizers are also launching a new program called “Beads for Needs.” The program recycles Mardis Gras beads with the help of local students.

“Now, those beads will have a renewed purpose in helping the students at Ball High in Daren Muren’s Life Skills program and Rob Lewis’ entrepreneurial program – Incubator. The Incubator business students will work closely with Life Skills students to collect, sort, clean and repackage the beads for sale in their upcoming online store,” the official website shared.

A number of family events have also been planned for February 27. The Shriners Hospitals for Children & Sunshine Kids Parade will take place at noon, with Krewe of Barkus & Meoux Parade scheduled for 1:30 pm.

Shortly after, at 3 pm, local firefighters and first responders will host the Mardi Gras! Firefighters Children’s Parade. Prior to the big day for kids, a coloring contest will be held for ages 12 and under.

Three winners from three different age groups will be selected. The winners will get the chance to ride on a parade float, attend a Family Gras! balcony party, and be featured in the Galveston Daily News.

Tickets are currently on sale and start at $11.50 online.
