Erica Cash, a 42-year-old wife and mother, faced a serious health scare earlier this year when she woke up on the floor of her home and was rushed to Texas Health Rockwall, Fox 4 reported.
Doctors discovered a tennis ball-sized tumor on her brain, which was causing bleeding. After undergoing emergency surgery, Cash was relieved to learn the tumor was noncancerous, sparing her from the need for chemotherapy or radiation.
Despite the gravity of her situation, Cash remained focused on her future.
She had just been accepted into nursing school when the seizure occurred, and she was determined not to let the health setback derail her dreams. Following three months of recovery, Cash started nursing school as planned and ultimately completed her program. Today, she works as a licensed vocational nurse at Texas Health Rockwall, the very hospital where she received her life-saving treatment.
Her experience as both a patient and a nurse has given Cash a unique perspective.
Knowing how it feels to be on the other side of care makes her a more empathetic nurse. “I’m just blessed to be able to know how my patients feel,” Cash explained.
