The late Sen. John McCain’s son, 1st Lt. Jimmy McCain, says he will vote for Vice President Harris in November.
Jimmy, who enlisted in the Marine Corps at 17 and currently works as an intelligence officer in the 158th Infantry Regiment, recently condemned former President Donald Trump for using Arlington National Cemetery for allegedly political purposes, CNN reported.
Trump’s visit to the cemetery was captured by Trump’s campaign as the former president engaged in a wreath-laying ceremony honoring the 13 American soldiers killed in the August 26, 2021, bombing at the Kabul airport during Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Trump had received an invitation to the ceremony from family members of the slain service members, Newsweek reported.
However, the image capturing of the event resulted in a confrontation with a cemetery staff member as the Army declared that filming in the section where recent U.S. casualties are laid to rest violates federal law and regulations.
The respect for such laws and regulations is important. No question.
As such, perhaps Jimmy has forgotten, amid his current disdain, that his father had committed the same violation.
John McCain acknowledged he made “a very bad mistake” after including a clip of himself walking through Arlington National Cemetery in a campaign advertisement over two decades ago, per CNN.
In November 1999, while McCain (R-AZ) was challenging George W. Bush for the Republican nomination, he ran an ad that contained a sequence of McCain walking amongst the white stone graves of fallen soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. The ad concludes with the statement “McCain, Courage, Character.”
The television advertisement created a tremendous stir, with outlets like the Los Angeles Times reporting that McCain would scrap the ad due to public outcry.
Legacy media outlets have largely reported that a serious physical altercation occurred between a Trump campaign staffer and a cemetery staffer. However, there is reason to question this reporting.
Congressmen such as Rep. Jaime Raskin (D-MD) asked the Secretary of the Army to investigate the matter. The occurrence has been described as an unidentified cemetery staffer being “abruptly pushed aside” by an unidentified campaign staffer.
No charges were filed against either party.
“It was a made up story by Comrade Kamala and her misinformation squad,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “She made it all up to make up for the fact that she and Sleepy Joe have BLOOD ON THEIR HANDS for the INCOMPETENT AFGHANISTAN Withdrawal – THE MOST EMBARRASSING DAY IN U.S. HISTORY!!!”
Jimmy McCain’s interest in Democratic presidential candidates would not be his family’s first. Both contemporaneous and historical accounts indicate McCain himself considered becoming a Democrat or an independent caucused with Democrats after he was defeated by Bush in 2000.
McCain reportedly worked through the mechanics of announcing the party switch with then-Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle. However, he backed off once other Republicans defected, reportedly telling Daschel, “Look, somebody else has given you the majority — you don’t need me anymore.”
McCain and Trump had a decades-long feud that reportedly resulted in McCain killing priority Republican legislation, such as the Obamacare repeal.
With Jimmy’s negative reaction to Trump, many feel called to jog his memory.

Collin Rugg pasted the headline of the LA Times article into a post on X, stating, “Will Jimmy be condemning his father?”
NEW: John McCain’s son, Jimmy, says he is so disgusted that Trump would turn Arlington into a "campaign backdrop" that he is voting for Kamala.
Ironically, in 1999, John McCain himself used Arlington National Cemetery as a "campaign backdrop."
