Construction of anchor grocer H Mart is scheduled to begin in July at a mixed-use development in Haltom City.

According to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing, the estimated cost of the 190,000-square-foot project is $20 million. It has an anticipated delivery date of December 31, 2026.

“The 50-acre development will be constructed on the southeast corner at the intersection of Loop 820 and Beach St.,” according to a news release. “The frontage road of Loop 820 will front the supermarket and large retail shopping center. Distribution and logistics facilities will be located to the east and south of the shopping center.”

The New Jersey-based company “is the largest Asian supermarket chain in America and is the pioneer of Asian food in America,” according to its website. “H Mart is America’s premier Asian food destination and provides groceries and everyday essential needs as well as upscale products.”

About 50-60 tenants, including restaurants, retailers, and logistics and distribution centers, will make up the development, according to the release.

“This mixed-use development was designed to create a balance between highly desired retail service needs and foundational job-creating industries. A groundbreaking took place on January 18, 2024, with construction expected to take 18-20 months.”

The property will offer about 653,000 square feet of commercial space.

“We are particularly excited and humbled that H Mart has chosen to locate their seventh Texas store in our city,” Haltom City Mayor Dr. An Truong said in the release. “H Mart is one of the fastest growing grocery chains in America and Canada. … This entire development will create a significant number of jobs and tax revenue for our community.”

H Mart also plans to open a store at 2534 Royal Ln. in Dallas next year.

“The two-story building, upon completion of renovation, will have the 70,000 square foot supermarket on the first floor along with retail/restaurant space,” according to the Dallas Economic Development Corporation.

“The second floor of the building will house office space. H Mart will invest over $28 million in the renovation of the building and improvements to the site such as landscaping, lighting, and outdoor dining space. City Council approved an economic development incentive in the amount of nearly $4 million to help support the project, which is anticipated to start construction by January of 2024 and complete construction in December of 2025.”

Founded in New York in 1982, H Mart operates more than 70 stores in 14 states.
