A preteen boy was killed in a car crash on Thursday morning, and the 12-year-old driver of the vehicle and two other preteens were injured.
Emergency officials responded to reports of an SUV collision near Caspian Drive and Lasater Road in southeast Dallas around 8:40 a.m. on January 4. Witnesses reported that they had seen the vehicle speeding before it crashed into a tree, according to WFAA.
Dallas Fire-Rescue and police officers responded to the scene. One 12-year-old passenger died at the scene. The young driver and two other boys, an 11-year-old and a 12-year-old, were transported to the hospital and were listed in stable condition.
The identities of the boys have not been publicly released.
The brother of one of the injured preteens told WFAA that the boys had been arguing in the vehicle and that one of the occupants grabbed the steering wheel, causing it to veer off the road and crash. The Dallas Police Department confirmed that the surviving occupants said there had been an argument in the car.
How these boys procured the vehicle is unknown at this time. The Dallas Express contacted the DPD for comment but had not received a response as of the publication deadline.
Just last month, a head-on collision in Johnson County resulted in the deaths of six occupants of a minivan, including a 9-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy, as previously reported by The Dallas Express. A seventh passenger in the minivan and two teens in a pickup truck, including the 17-year-old driver, were critically injured in the crash.
