The Arlington Police Department responded to a few reports of crashes occurring early Friday morning, with one of these crashes resulting in a fatality.
Authorities issued a traffic alert on Friday that said all lanes were shut down on I-30 at Fielder Road due to a major crash involving a pedestrian that occurred just before 5 a.m. Officials warned that the lanes would be closed for several hours.
By 9 a.m., the department announced that all lanes had been cleared and were open. The department confirmed that one person had died as a result of the crash, according to WFAA. The identity of the victim is currently unknown.
The fatal crash was one of two accidents that impacted traffic in the area early this morning. The second crash occurred on the southbound Fielder Bridge near the exit for westbound I-30.
The crash resulted in traffic build-up in the area; however, the road was cleared within hours. No fatalities or injuries have yet been reported from the second collision.
While car accidents are relatively frequent across North Texas, Dallas has garnered a reputation as one of the most dangerous cities to drive in, at least according to a Forbes ranking, which had Atlanta and Dallas tied for first place on its official list of “Top 50 Cities Where You’re Most Likely to Get in a Car Accident.”
Some cities have started taking more comprehensive steps to reduce traffic fatalities, such as the Dallas City Council, which adopted a plan called “Vision Zero” in 2019. However, council members recently voiced dissatisfaction with the progress made in the plan’s implementation, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
