Friends and family of a 30-year-old man who was shot in the Oak Lawn neighborhood of Dallas early Monday have gathered to mourn his death.

Dallas police said that the shooting happened just before 3 a.m. Monday, Sept 20, at the Flamingo Apartments at 3901 N. Hall St. This address is near Cedar Springs Road and Oak Lawn Avenue.

According to the Dallas PD, Justin Wayne Dixon was found on the sidewalk by officers called to the shooting incident in which Dixon was the victim. Police said that Dixon was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a GoFundMe for his memorial fund, Dixon, whose surname was previously identified as Thompson, was known by his friends and family as Justin Dixon. The 30-year-old’s family and friends are urging the public to bring forward any information that could help police arrest the person responsible for his shooting.

Ferrara, who was Dixon’s best friend and roommate, said she talked to him about 12:30 a.m., which was the last time she spoke to him. She noted that Dixon started his Sunday at church and ended the day out at the bars on Cedar Springs.

“There’s not really any sense to it because anyone who knew Justin really knew that he didn’t deserve this. But who does?” Ferrara said. “I think the hardest thing, though, is not knowing what happened.”

Ferrara also added that Dixon was a son, a brother, a friend, a man of faith, and more. She said the 30-year-old meant so much more to so many people.

“Justin was always the person that if you needed someone, he would be there for you,” she said. “Anyone you ask will tell you he was their biggest hype man. He had a kind word for anyone.”

She said the impact Dixon made on people’s lives would outshine whatever happened and whoever did this.

Dallas police have not arrested anyone in connection with Dixon’s murder as of Tuesday afternoon.
